Hello . . . and welcome to a new section of the Macartney Lodge website, designed exclusively for the wives and girfriends of members of the Lodge, or 'WAGS' as they are known these days. This is a new project, largely initiated by Sarah White. Her concept is for a resource available to wives to help them support their menfolk in Masonry. Perhaps those who will gain most from this website are the wives of new members of the Lodge. Masonry is a completely new world, with all sort of traditions to be observed, a vast number of strangers to meet at social functions and a husband who is probably too new to Masonry to be able to offer useful advice. To them we say, welcome. Macartney Lodge is a very special group of people who will make you feel at home. But it inevitably takes some time to fit in to a group who have been together for, in some cases, well over 40 years! So, take your time. To the 'old hands' we also say welcome. But we don't expect to teach you anything about a Masonic wife's duties. But we do hope that you will be able to make your contributions to this site to help our newer WAGS. Let's assume we all want to support our menfolk in their strange and 'secret' world. It is often said that Freemasonry is not a 'secret society' but a society with secrets. There are always going to be some aspects of Freemasonry where we ladies cannot intrude but, elsewhere in this section, there is much useful information to help you understand as much of the history and practice of Masonry as the men will allow. The buttons on the left will help you find your way round the site. It's all new and many sections are still being put together. There is a FAQ (frequently asked questions) section which is completely empty right now. That's because nobody has asked any questions yet. But don't be shy - you could be the first! To ask a question, or offer any help or assistance toward making this site a useful tool for us all, click here or email wags@macartneylodge.co.uk Photographs from the 2010 Gala weekend
